Genzano

Bread & Celebration!​

  • Bring your appetite and prepare for a carb overload! Genzano is famous for its IGP, Protected Geographical Indication bread that dates back to the 17th century.

  • Make sure to align your trip with the towns festive celebrations. The town boast two large festivals every year, Bread Festival and Flower Festival.

    • The Flower Festival is held every spring during June in which local artists sketch out 13 incredibly detailed designs and then translate them onto the pavement of Via Belardi. Then, literally millions of flowers are picked 2-3 days before the festival in a wide variety of colors and they are laid into these artistic masterpieces to be viewed in a parade.

    • The Bread Festival is held every fall during September in which the worlds longest bruschetta is prepared. The bruschetta spans 250 meters and is seasoned with over 60 liters of olive oil and over 5,000 tomatoes.

Nemi

Strawberries, Lunch, & Roman History!

  • The town of Nemi is known for its natural beauty, first appreciated by the Romans. Many Roman Emperors used Nemi as an escape from the crowded city of Rome. Emperor Caligula's impact on the town can still be seen today in the Museum of Roman Ships. The museum houses two life size replicas of ceremonial ships used during his rule discovered at the bottom of Lake Nemi.

  • If you wish to have a better understanding of the ceremonies these ships performed in look no further than the Temple of Diana. Goddess Diana was worshipped as the protector of hunting and fishing, patron of childbirth, and the divinity of the underworld.

  • Hiking and history can work up an appetite. Be sure to eat some of Nemi's most treasured cuisine, strawberries! Strawberries have been incorporated into many of the dishes seen throughout the city and the bakery sweets do not disappoint

    • Bonus! Nemi hosts a strawberry festival every June.
